A Day In The Life...

Due to issues with our vehicles our summer has been limited to the odd day trips here and there. To say it has been a great summer would be a gross exaggeration. However all is not loss when you live in a beautiful place like Nova Scotia. In order to enjoy what was left of the summer, we decided to do some day trips around town. One of the annual events here are the Buskers. We decided to take the crew downtown Halifax and brave the crowds. For those of you who have never been to Halifax, we are known world-wide as having one of the largest ice-free ports, which was and is important for the shipping industry. It is also very pretty especially on a beautiful sunny day as we had. Even though I was born in Jamaica and love my homeland, there is no place like Halifax, Nova Scotia! There's always something to do. We have many visitors who come to our region and enjoy the many sights and sounds. Of course because of gas prices, many families are having, "staycations", the new form of vacations! Some of the performers we saw was a group, called Ryouko. They were a martial arts group that worked with Jackie Chan and the Matrix movies as stunt doubles. They were pretty good. Camden who has asked to go into tae kwan doh(not sure about spelling) was really impressed, especially with the Matrix scenes. We actually had bench seats for these performances, so it wasn't too bad. I think Darren got a bit sun-burnt but it was nice to not have to jump up and down to get a peek.

This guy was amazing. He played the drums on just buckets and it was incredible. He was also very funny. At one time he asked all the black people in the audience to yell out, well you heard maybe 5 people. Of course that wasn't good enough, so we had to yell a little louder. He then proceeded to play something and asked if we would recognize it, which of course we did. Then he asked if there were any hispanics in the audience and only one voice yelled out, it was quite funny. He then proceeded to play something that apparently that sole hispanic seem to have recognized because they started yelling happily. Then when he got to the asking whites to yell out, it was almost deafening because the majority of people were white. The funny thing was when he started to play whatever he played, I really didn't know what it was he was playing but all the white people recognized it and started cheering. This was one of those acts where you had to squeeze in to get a picture or sit on someone's shoulders, case in point, Raven and her dad!

There was a lot to see that day and I'm glad we were able to go as a family to see it. Tiffani was unable to join us which would have made it perfect but oh well, c'est la vie! The kids seem to have had an enjoyable time considering we didn't spend a penny. Sometimes the best places to visit is right in our own backyard! There were other acts we were able to see as well as the scenery was just beautiful. These are some other pictures of our pretty little town and our family.
