Life's Bounty...Part1...Hawaiian Luau

This is a two occasion blog. The first being the Hawaiian dinner that Darren and I were invited to. Jackie O'Hearon, Kathy Nelson's mother, invited us as well as the elders and Laura, her daughter, and her friends to this Luau. For those of you who don't know, my husband Darren served his mission in Hawaii and Jackie and Bill went to Hawaii twice in less than 2 years. There was also an elder who was from Hawaii. Everything for the meal was authentically Hawaiian.

This is Laura(on the right)and her friends who joined us for the dinner.

This is Bill, "the Big Kahuna", Jackie's husband. He is such a sweetheart. I just love him and Jackie...they're such great people.

Of course what's a luau without a palm tree. When the O'Hearons decide to do something, they do it big. Not bad for Nova Scotia, eh!

Not only the table setting was lovely but the food was amazing! Everyone brought something to the table and it was awesome!

This was just the starter. We had papaya, pineapple, mango, melon, grapes, strawberries and a madarin salad. Even the bread was Hawaiian courtesy of Jackie.

As you can see, there was no lack of food. The pig was fine, the chicken and ribs disappeared and the poi, well let's just say, that was an aquired taste. My husband loves that stuff and I can't stand it myself but to each his own.

This is Elder Cooper from Hawaii. He actually was the one who asked to have the dinner. His mother had sent him some stuff in a care package and wanted to share it with us. It was very generous of him and we certainly appreciated it.

Jackie mastering the Hawaiian lingo with Elder Cooper. Not only was the dinner authentic but the whole atmosphere was laid back and relaxed...so Hawaiian style!

I quite like this picture of me in borrowed clothing(Jackie's).

Darren came straight from work and Bill provided him with the shirt. What fabulous hosts!

The dessert that Jckie is cutting is the one I made. It's called Haupia pudding(coconut pudding). The weird thing was, it was Elder Cooper's favorite dessert, which I didn't know and also something my husband really loved while in Hawaii. This was my first time making it and my husband thought he had died and went to heaven. Just look at this next picture!

I know what I want to say concerning this picture but it might offend some people...needless to say, he was enjoying the whole experience and we got a good chuckle from it all.

Of course, what's a luau without some entertainment. It was lovely hearing Elder Cooper sing and play the ukelele...it wasn't quite so authentic when we tried to sing.

I read yours as well! So of course I don't mind ANYONE reading mine for sure! And I know your husband...I'm originally a Wentzell for Bridgewater and I know your oldest daughter who is so cute! Thanks for the words of advice. I do need to remember that these are the best years for hugs and cuddling with my baby so I gotta take it for granted. I'm gonna add you to my friends list so I can better keep track of your adventures!

Aloha,
It looks like you had an awesome Luau party! We see some mainland luau party pictures on the web where they didn’t even use decorations or wear Hawaiian shirts. You guys did it up, great job.

Wow, that looks like it was quite the luau! Leave it to an O'Hearon to go all out like that...they are such a creative bunch! I love Hawaii and was lucky enough to visit just over 2 years ago. I never had the chance to go to a luau but I still ate loads of good food there. You guys are all rocking the Hawaiian shirts by the way. Way to get in the spirit of the party!
