When I'm Not Being A Mother...Part 1

Well it was that time of year again, my 6th year at girl's camp. The theme for the year was, "Climb Till Your Dreams Come True And Reach For The Stars". This year, there were about 80 of us. Anyway, camp underwent a facelift of some sort since the changing of the "guard". All our leaders had their own building, complete with 2 showers and 3 bathrooms. It was sweet! The camp director Barb is on the left and her 2 assistants, Denise and Jocelyn, are on the right. It was St Patrick's Day at camp, hence the green. They were performing the yogi bear song and well the picture doesn't do it full justice. The other picture shows not only the building the leaders stayed in but our specialists performing another ditty! Pat Jewers on the left, really threw herself into it all! I really don't want to comment too much on their performances as I know there will be some doozies of me on facebook! Part of my roll at girl's camp was craft. Each year I try to come up with interesting ideas for the girls and this year, I thought making a family tree would be a great idea. This was the sample I made for the girls to see. Once done, it is placed in a frame with a black felt background. The pictures in it, are not the ones I want so they'll be changed lickety-split. I hope to make one for my mom for christmas, of my grandmother and all her children since it will be 3 years since she passed away. Christmas was also my grandmother's birthday. I know my mom will appreciate it as a gift. I hope to finish this one with only my immediate family on it. Chelsea managed to get the hang of it. Although I haven't seen the end results yet. The other 4th year girls were quite quick to catch on with the craft and manage to finish the wiring part in one class! It was a little hard on the fingers to make it but it really turned out well. Even though I had to teach crafts everyday, there was still time to play. The temperature was in the mid 90's while at camp and what better way to cool off than some swimming and canoeing. Doug Williams was the man when it came to these 2 activities. I don't know how many years he has been going to camp but I often wondered how he felt being one of only 2 men surrounded by women. He never seem to lose his cool no matter how much chatter goes on around him. I'm sure he's heard it all over the years. Still, he keeps coming back year after year.
This picture of the girls lifting the canoe was just an old one that the kids would just load up and try to sink. We watched them for a while wondering who would be the 1st to get "conked" on the head.

Oh the fun times at Girls Camp. I used to juggle toothpaste every night with a friend.....it wasn't really juggling....more like tossing it back and forth but we had fun!!!! I wish I had a better memory to remember all the foolish things we did......

I LOVED Girls Camp (in Oregon, anyway....we moved to Utah halfway through high school, and Girls Camp in Utah was dumb....)
Anyway, I alwys loved the Polar Bear swim, where we'd wake up at 6 am and jump into the freezing pool to earn the polar bear charm for our camp necklaces! So fun!

That brought me back to my youth. Looks like it was another successful year.
